The Crucifixion of Jesus
They compelled a passer-by, who was coming in from the country, to carry his cross; it was Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus.
About the Picture
The FPCD Israel tour included some walking through Jerusalem and stopped at a couple of the Via Dolorosa stations. Station V is at the Chapel of Simon of Cyrene, a Franciscan construction built in 1895. The Latin inscription “Simoni Cyrenaeo Crux Imponitur” translates to: “The cross is placed on Simon of Cyrene”
